MELBOURNE, Australia – Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd (‘Esso’, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia Pty Ltd) has extended its gas sales agreement with Oceania Glass, which will see the company continue supplying Gippsland gas to support Australian glass production until at least the mid-2020s.
Oceania Glass, Australia’s only manufacturer of architectural flat glass, makes and distributes glass for use in Australian homes and buildings. Employees at its Dandenong South operations rely on the supply of Gippsland gas to power the furnace at the heart of its manufacturing process.
Esso continues to work together with manufacturers across Australia to develop competitive supply agreements, contracting over 60 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas in the last two years alone.
ExxonMobil Australia Chairman, Mr Nathan Fay, said Esso continued to invest in delivering gas from the Gippsland Basin to Australian homes and businesses, supporting local jobs and the Australian economy.
“Our ongoing investment means that, after more than 50 years, the Gippsland Basin remains the largest single source of gas supply to the east coast domestic market,” he said.
Esso recently commissioned the West Barracouta project, which is set to be the largest new source of domestic gas for the Australian market this decade.
“Investment in projects like West Barracouta, mean that Gippsland gas continues to flow to the Australian market, supporting local manufacturers, such as Oceania Glass, and the thousands of Australians who rely on their products,” said Mr Fay.
Oceania Glass manufactures glass at its Melbourne operations for distribution across the country, indirectly supporting thousands of jobs in the construction and building industry.
“We are proud to manufacture Australian glass for Australian homes and buildings that is powered by Gippsland gas,” said Mr Corné Kritzinger, Chief Executive Officer, Oceania Glass.
