BD marks delivery milestone for COVID-19 vaccinations in Australia

In mid-November, BD – ANZ (Australia and New Zealand) celebrated an important company milestone, with the first delivery of disposable needles, syringes and sharps collectors to the Australian Department of Health to support the delivery of Australia’s COVID-19 Vaccine and Treatment Strategy.

We are proud to be part of an innovative collaboration between government, manufacturers, researchers and clinicians alike to guarantee that when the time arrives, every Australian can access a COVID-19 vaccine.

Just like the rest if the world, Australian media eagerly reports on the COVID-19 vaccination developments, with much of the focus on pharmaceutical manufacturing updates. Therefore, the milestone delivery provided us with a unique opportunity to leverage the ‘MedTech’ news angle for an announcement to industry and medical news media.

Recognising the importance of the MedTech angle, we also teamed with peak industry body, the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA). The CEO Mr. Ian Burgess was quoted in our media release, which provided additional third-party credibility and endorsement to our media announcement.

Our industry and medical media announcement resulted in 11 stories, which all replicated the media release almost verbatim. Just two weeks into her role, Anelo was also quoted in every media story, with an impressive 100% key message penetration and positive sentiment across the board! In addition to delivering vaccine products, we’re also liaising with the Department of Health, including the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and State healthcare systems, to expand Australia’s access to diagnostic testing and treatment support for COVID-19 patients. This includes swabs for influenza and COVID-19 testing, rapid molecular diagnostic tests using the BD MAX System and 15-minute point-of-care antigen testing with the BD Veritor Plus System.

According to Albert Einstein, in the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity. This has never been truer than in 2020 as we encounter challenges unlike any we’ve faced before. Special thanks and recognition go out to the entire BD team for their agile and innovative response in securing a significant government contract and ensuring the successful milestone delivery of COVID-19 consumables: James Hill, Jessica Oostergetel, Helen Thomas, Teresita Tayag, Joann Nguyen, Aurea Dumaloag, Hugh Cameron, James Apps, Benjamin Hohmann, Rosie Burgess, Kiwoung Kim, Grace Poh, Lee Heok, Shivani Gautam, Shane Phillips, Katie Saina, Kristal Liddelow, Laura Castelnoble and Anelo Cournut.
