Shanghai’s New Smart-City District Moves with Otis

New Bund Center, the district’s tallest building is a smart building showcase, deploying the latest mobility technologies from Otis

The New Bund Area in Pudong is Shanghai’s second central business district, supporting the city’s continuing growth. Spanning more than 1.3 million square meters, the New Bund Area has emerged as a vibrant community of upscale office and residential buildings, retail complexes and hotels – all served by a transit hub with three metro lines. It thrives as a smart city community moved by Otis elevators and escalators.

The district’s tallest building, the 270-meter New Bund Center, opened in 2021. It earned LEED accreditation, and is a smart building showcase, deploying the latest mobility technologies from Otis:

  • More than 50 Otis elevators and escalators carry passengers inside the building, including 37 SkyRise® elevators designed for tall buildings.

  • The Otis ONE™ Internet of Things (IoT) platform monitors elevator operations in real time and supports predictive maintenance. If a malfunction or potential problem is detected, the Otis ONE system will alert on-call service professionals to promptly fix the issue.

  • The Compass® 360 intelligent dispatching system gets passengers to their destinations faster and more efficiently. The Compass 360 technology automatically adjusts elevator operations to reduce passenger waiting time in peak hours.

  • More than 10 service robots are integrated to the elevator system, allowing them to travel between floors for contactless delivery.

Elsewhere in the New Bund Area, more than 180 additional Otis elevators and escalators move passengers at the transit hub and at several other office buildings, including the New Bund World Trade Center.

“Otis is proud to be part of the New Bund, where our China regional office is located,” said Perry Zheng, Otis China President and Chief Customer Product Officer. “We are committed to supporting the New Bund central business district with elevators, escalators and smart mobility solutions, including IoT service, that elevate urban transportation for the future.”
