Chevron signs new WA gas supply agreement with South32

Continuing a long-standing partnership, the agreement will commence on 1 January 2028, with Chevron to supply 55 petajoules of gas over a five-year period.

The gas will supply South32’s Worsley Alumina operations, a major contributor to minerals processing, local employment and the regional economy.

Chevron’s WA portfolio includes the Chevron-operated Gorgon and Wheatstone gas facilities which together provide approximately 40 percent of the state’s domestic gas supply.

Chevron Australia President Balaji Krishnamurthy said the agreement demonstrated how WA’s domestic gas policy continued to enable reliable gas supply and energy security for the state.

“Our agreement with South32 is another demonstration of the way LNG developments, under WA’s long-standing domestic gas policy, have enabled a well-supplied domestic gas market, powering homes and businesses, and supporting the major industries that underpin the state’s economy,” Krishnamurthy said.

“As WA’s energy system evolves, natural gas will continue to play a vital role in providing reliable energy and supporting the industries that underpin the state’s economy for decades to come.”

The agreement is the latest in a series of long-term domestic gas supply agreements Chevron has entered into over the past year including with Horizon Power and Alinta Energy, reflecting continued demand for reliable gas supply from WA customers.
